How to Transfer Completed Drupal Site from Desktop to Hosted Server

I need to install a drupal site on Site5. I have my drupal site tar ball...could anyone give me good 1., 2., 3., instructions on how to put this site up on my hosted server? Everything is created and complete for the Drupal site to run beautifully, I just need to know how to transfer it from my desktop (it is in a folder along with the .sql) to my server.

fuitadnet.com - NOT A GOOD CHOICE FOR YOUR WEBSITE hosting.

i have been with them for the past 2 years and it's been a non stop battle. it worked great for the first few month and than it's been trouble after trouble

i am kind of stuck ther because i don't know how to migrate a website (database and content) i triend once and i lost the site but if you happen to fall near fuidanet.com stay away.

mysql and media temple

let me first say that i have had a couple of sites hosted by media temple for a few years with little or no problems. and if an issue arose, they promptly and courteously fixed it. i've referred several of my clients to them and have been a big supporter.

however, am i the only drupal-er plagued by 10-15 seconds of mysql latency on their grid-server? also, after about two months of reprieve, the database errors have returned in the last week. again, is this just me?

Experience with dedicated servers

I've been through 4 dedicated hosting companies in the last 2 years and evaluated another 50. Want to share my experience.

First I got a dedicated on http://dreamhost.com. It worked great until I started getting serious traffic. At 100K page loads a day the server constantly died on me. We tried everything. Now, I know for almost certain is because the databases are on a separate machine shared with other users, even though I was on a dedicated machine. I kept this server for my smaller sites, because the nice service, but for my main site I moved on.

I tried http://mediatemple.net VPS. Costs a lot, but I was hoping I'll get a good service for it. For one week I failed to install my Drupal site. I gave up.

I got an http://aplus.net server. It was great, except they failed to mention that there is no backup on the servers whatsoever. Yes, I should've read the fineprint that I need to pay an exta 10usd/m on top of 250 to get backup. When I lost the HD one day I found out the big surprise. The service was appalling. After about 6 month I canceled. One day after the cancellation they charged me 3 month of service in advance!!! Imagine that. And, so far I could not get my money back.

Which hosting company will be the best to provide hosting for a Drupal based video community site?

The website also wants to web business as to selling small things online. Is the ecommerce module in Drupal well placed to achieve this goal?
