Translations

I have run a site in Chinese for 7 months and it is getting popular every month. Then all of a sudden, almost all the Chinese characters on the site changed into question marks. I could not find any relevant information in the Forum here.

I guess I am the only person encounted this problem here. I still hope someone can help me because I really have no clue to solve the problem.

I'm confused about the variable used in translation strings. I cannot find it in the handbook or the Readme files.

What is the difference between !form, %form, @form ?
What variables are available?

I want to use username instead of name (and if possible contact form category) in certain translation, for example:

!name (!name-url) has sent you a message via your contact form (!form-url) at !site.
(modules/contact/contact.module:363)

Sorry for the many threads, but this problem is making me mad. I have been trying to fix it now for quite some time..

I have come to a conclusion that the translation part in my website is corrupted... How can I reinstall the translation part of the website?

I deleted the .po file and put it back in but nothing

(THe problem is the Arabic won't work... it shows it as "??????" however the admin menu is in Arabic working correctly)

The translation import of drupalpt-pt-5.x-1.1.po failed.
