Translations

Hello All,

 I want to create site like drupalchina.org. I'm using i18n module for translation. I'm already done with translation. But the only point remained is of "Default Language". 

I want Chinese as a default language for my site. I have tried changing it through
Administer -> Site Configuration -> Localization. But it is not working. Is there any other way to do it through hard coding?

I have also tried

I have only two languages on my site: English (not enabled) and Spanish (default language). But Drupal started to translate forum strings to German. I have never added the German language, nor translated or uploaded any string to German.

What can be causing this?

Currently i am working acquia drupal. My whole site is completed. Currently I am doing multi language process for French and Dutch. Its working but many strings is missing from translation. How to translate this? . I used search option. But many string is not find this method. Can anyone know solution for this problem please help me.

I have a problem.

I created all my source content and then its translations.

After a while, i started doing more stuff on the website and added new CCK fields, one of them an imagefield.

This means i can update my content with photos and stuff.

Now the problem i have is that after i add photos to the source, i have to go and add manually the same photos to the translation.
This is bad for two reasons:

- waste of time
- waste of disk space (the system does not recognize its the same photo being added twice)

Are fields like "Explanation or submission guidelines:" translatable? I know how to translate the fieldname but cannot figure out how to translate the field content. I thought of making it a multilingual variable but this did not seem to work.

I think this might be a pretty common request and I would be very, very thankful for any hint.
