This forum is for questions about upgrading an existing Drupal site. Don't forget to read the UPGRADE.txt file that comes with every Drupal download.

6.19 to 7-RC2 upgrade

So I have a dev site that has all the same data as our live site. I made a copy of the dev site and upgraded it to Drupal 7. Ran into the below problem and just thought I would share in case it is relevant to anyone.

I followed the instructions in the upgrade.txt file. Everything seemed to work except for one of the database updates failed when I ran update.php. I tried just running update.php a second time and received the below message.

system module
Update #7061

* Failed: DatabaseSchemaObjectExistsException: Table system_update_7061 already exists. in DatabaseSchema->createTable() (line 623 of /srv/www/htdocs/sdma7/includes/database/schema.inc).

So I looked in the mysql database and the table system_update_7061 was there so I dropped it and tried to run update.php again. Received the below.

system module
Update #7061

only home page works - moved from old host 5.x to new host 6.x

I was forced to move a working Drupal 5.x (old IT staffer's personal server) site to a new ISP host (GoDaddy) that uses 6.x. I need help with the changes.

At first nothing worked untill I modified the settings.php file. Now the first page, aka. landing/home, page is displayed correctly. None of the other pages work. I can not log into the site. I get a "page not found" error using any of the navigation links.

Drupal 6 Website not working after moving to different hosting

Hello.

I just moved my Drupal 6 website to another web server (web hosting account) and it broke up.

It shows me error Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_VARIABLE in /home/**user**/public_html/**domain**.com/news/sites/default/settings.php on line 125

where **user** is my username on the web hosting server
and **domain**.com is the folder of the domain on the hosting machine.

Drupal Beginner to Drupal Intermediate Stage

Don't laugh, but I finished the book Drupal for Dummies recently ; ) I've made a few simple websites for small businesses in my town; I can download modules, I know how to move around my hosting server, write basic html etc. I would say I am at the stage between "beginner" and "intermediate" now (beginner, intermediate, advanced, expert). I am struggling to get over this hump though. Any books or reading material people know of?

Help reviving Drupal site aand then immediately upgrading it

I'm trying to resurrect a 4.7 site that I has both a core installation and several modules in need of upgrades. It crashed while someone was in the midst of uploading content; afterward, the webhost limited access because the site was chewing up a bunch of its server resources. The webhost described the problem thus: "We have made an extensive investigation to find the root causing the issue. It seems that there is some kind of problem with the php script index.php. This script is running too long on the server and is causing the excessive load."

Here's the situation:

  • The site had about 20 pieces of content added since the middle of September, but none of that content had been backed up (yes, I know). Since the content was edited online, we don't have final versions of these files stored anywhere else. (Again, yes, I know.)
  • We do have backups prior to that.
  • We had to post 5 or 6 new pieces of content before the end of this week; then no new content will be posted until midJanuary.
  • I probably should explain that I'm not a Drupal expert nor an effective web troubleshooter. I do this on a donated, part-time basis when I have time to help out.
  • After the problem surfaced, I pulled a database dump and downloaded the old site to my Mac.

How do I upgrade a high traffic site? People keep creating new content!

I am trying to upgrade a very high traffic site from 5-6. I have over 40 modules, so it takes hours. I can't really take the site down for any length of time, we have contributors in every time zone. In the meantime, people keep creating new content.

After finishing the core and module upgrade (about 16 hrs) my development site is now obsolete, from a content perspective. My understanding of the database is that it contains all of the settings I just spent all that time tweaking, so if I try to import the Drupal 5 database, all that work is lost. I need to get the content up to date without rolling back my module settings.
