Can't use the update manager

Hello,

when I'm trying to update modules with the update manager or with drush, it seems that drupal can't connect to the update-page of drupal.org. Possibly reason for this is company firewall or proxy. I just don't know how to fix this. Anybody does?

Drupal 6.19 to 6.20 Upgrade - Files Only

The following download is provided for those users who do not find it necessary to overwrite all the files within their Drupal 6.x installation when an update becomes available. Using a file comparison utility, the following update zip file contains only the date modified Drupal core distribution files which have been changed, added, or updated since the previous release.

Upload the new files to your Drupal site, then log into your site as the administrator and run update.php. A link to the update.php file can be found on the Administer » Site building » Modules page.

After running update.php, your Available Updates and Status Report functions will indicate that you are running the latest Drupal release version.

Drupal 6.19 to 6.20 Upgrade Files Only

Note:
You can also download any of the other Drupal 6.x upgrade files from the same page. For reference purposes, see the following drupal.org support topic page: Drupal 6.x Upgrade - Files Only

By the way, I have successfully updated twelve (12) Drupal 6.x websites using this method and have never encountered any site problems.

Accessing Drupal Backend Mangement

Hello,
I've just been brought into a project that's using Drupal. The client has terminated his relationship with the previous developer and for one reason or another the previous developer will not give the client the drupal backend login information. I have access to the cpanel, ftp, etc., but I have no way of accessing the drupal management interface. Is there any way to reset this password or from with the cpanel or even within mysql? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

What is going on with Drupal ?

I thought the whole idea about drupal is to make everything faster, quicker, user friendly. But my experience has given rise to frustration.

This is the story. I have been trying to get gallery using jcarousel, views module with rotating, slideshows etc. I have tried them all, but none but one rotating views worked. But after I tried to update the modules. Now the rotating one does not work any longer. How could such wonderful thing does not work in first or second try ???

I really do know what to think any longer ? I tried all gallery module, even those that say that it does not need much tweaking to get it to work straight away, but still it does not work. I tried the issue with jquery update. It is still not working ???

Now, I have my sites structured like so

earthsmate.com, has all the folders

earthsmate.com/portfolio domain, with its own installation and module folders

are these setups causing issues ???

Thanks in advance before I am giving up on drupal altogether. I do not think it has to be that hard. But my research has shown that there are a lot of frustrated people for various reasons. Arent module fully tested before giving an OK go and the documentation on how to install I found to be quite shocking to be honest.

making an 'end run' around the upgrade 6.1.3 to 6.1.9

I have a 6.1.3 drupal site that needs an upgrade to 6.1.9. Reading the instructions for the upgrade i can see there will be many problems along that route, which is why i am first trying a different tack.
First i installed the newest version in a different directory, and noted the modules used and have uploaded but not enabled or configured those modules.
Second i have uploaded and enabled the theme, which worked.
Third I have taken the complete export of the 6.1.3 database using phpadmin, and have that on my local server..
Since the content is mostly what i presume i should replicate first, i have put the node and node revision tables
in the 6.1.9 database.
I did not want to try to replicate the complete old version database because of corrupting it with old module data or some other type of data i have not yet defined.
Viewing the new version in my development environment I can see the content but also i can see that i am trying to hit a moving target, so i will always be a bit behind in record count, but i can fix that later. What i mean there is that the view of phpadmin for record counts for the node revision tables for the new version db is behind by a couple of thousand rows, something which could be accounted for from new content being added...dunno yet.

Not hacking core...

So I know not to hack core but previous site maintainer did not follow this advice and now I've inherited it.

What do you do if core has been hacked and you have no idea what previous admin did?

I'm about to try to upgrade from Drupal 5.21 to 6. Other than the traditional migration instructions I've found floating about is there any sagely advice to be had before attempting a D5 to D6 upgrade? I've made a bazillion backups of our database and I'm hoping that update.php will iron our any rough spots with the database.
