Upgrading Drupal

Howdy

I am interested in upgrading http://glenwood.trustech.co.za from D6 to D7 with a view to moving to D8 once released. It is currently fully updated at 6.30 and I now need to get to the next stage of moving to D7.

I would like to know what documentation to follow for this process.

How to debug Update.php as it takes 50-60 seconds just to check for pending database updates on my website recently ?

It went beyond the 30-second limit imposed by my shared hosting and thus causing error 500 and PHP execution time limit.

I downloaded and installed Outreach / Commerce Kickstar / Drupal Commons / Atrium / Panapoly, all only take less than 11 seconds to finish checking in update.php as compared to mine 50-60 seconds.

Okay so I am trying to install a JQuery Update to run Nivo-Slider on my Drupal 7 site. I have installed all supporting files for Nivo-slider, installed the JQuery plugin and installed the Jquery update (jquery_update-7-1.x-2.3.tar). However the JQuery update isn't showing as installed on my site admin panel. Any idea what the problem is? Also I'm brand new to Drupal and also brand new to code so please be very specific on instructions. (what file to pull up, where to paste things, etc.)

My organization runs a site for about 5 years on the Drupal 6 version. I've made a complete new site in Drupal 7, and I want to add some content from the old site to the new one. In the Drupal 6 website there is a content type called 'items' which contains the default fields (title, body, date creation, ..) and a lot of other specific fields. However, it is only necessary to transfer the title, body and creation date fields. All the other fields can be ignored.

I have upgrade the D6 to D7.
But some CCK field can't be migrated.
When in D6, I installed the ImageField, Fivestar, Date, Dynamic filed. Now a ImageField and a Dynamic filed can't be migrated.

I have tried to update by using FTPing into my site with file zila. I copied over the files and the site does not update despite following the steps. Any ideas?
