Upgrading Drupal

Currently I'm using drupal 4.6.2 for a website, the problem is I need to add new modules for more functionality. I need to add modules like service links, gsitemap, spam etc. Some modules I need are available for 4.7.x but it does not function in 4.6.2. Therefore, I'm thinking of upgrading to 5.2 rather than 4.7.
Questions:
1. How do I do this? Upgrade from 4.5.2 to 5.2 of drupal.
2. I have to retain all the post (node) information and user information of the current website? How do I do it?

I have already posted this problem but i didnt recieve any replies fron anyone ,might be it was not clear, so my case is like this :
when i run cron.php it shows warnings like

"Warning: mysql_real_escape_string(): 6 is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in C:\Program Files\xampp\htdocs\TMG\includes\database.mysql.inc on line"

I am not able to figure out why this is happening. Can anybody face this problem ,
Please help me ,it is very urgent. I tried my best to solve this problem.

Hi,

I have a Drupal site at http://solicitorconveyancing.com currently running 5.1. I have nearly 50 modules that have 5.1 as their recommended version. Will these all break if I try to upgrade? What will happen to existing files/databases/data?

I also use the NewsFlash theme which is not in the core..

Really need some advice on what to do here as the message said to update as soon as possible because of security fixes but I can't lose my site :(

The old website is www.website.org/en/index.php and the new is www.website.org.

Now, login does not work.

Just when I thought I was done with my site's upgrade from 4.7 to 5.2, I found yet another problem when I added my first node. I think this must be something easy to fix, but I haven't found it yet.

My problem is that when the node is rendered, the path for the image appears to have an extra thing on the path... the path now appears as "mysite.com/content/files" instead of "mysite/files" which is the place where they are really being uploaded. Imagecache can't either see them because of this path problem.

When upgrading from 5.1 - 5.2 I get an ’ in a couple blog titles. One time the ’ is shown in place of an apostrophe and another time its inplace of a hash. What causes this and is a their a good way to correct this.
