Using node_import and retaining nid

I'm moving a big site from earlier drupal to 5.2, and am using the fantastic node_import module to import a large database of stories with customized fields to CCK (in CSV form), and would like to import the nid so the URLs don't need to change.

Problem is, I'm a relative newbie and can't figure out which field to import the CSV header nid to. If I create an NID field in CCK, will drupal recognize it as the nodeID? Is there a better way to get the nid to stay the same using the import content page?

Thanks for your help.

Image module upgrade - front page showing thumbnails instead of preview images

Drupal 5.1 ... Went to upgrade my current image module (5.x-1.x-dev) to 5.x-1.5. Took the site offline, backed up the database etc. Uploaded the new module, ran update.php with no problems. Now the front page is showing thumbnails instead of preview images. With xyz.thumbnail.jpg filenames, so it's not just showing preview images at the wrong size, it's actually generating thumbnails. The nodes show preview images like they're supposed to. Why is it doing this? Argh.

Strange error every time I update a node - is this dangerous?

Following an upgrade to 5.1 from 4.7, I get the following error message every time I update a node.

The fundamentals of updating.

The process of upgrading is outlined as:

1. back up
2. unzip 5.2 files onto my server
3. run update.php

What does step 3 do?

I recently upgraded and then after some issues decided to ‘unwind’ the upgrade by deleting all files and folders from the 5.2 tar ball (step 2) and replacing with my old files and folders from my back up that I had made in step 1. But since I had also performed step 3 I am unsure as to whether I upgraded or not?

Can't get my site into ONLINE mode. Please help.

How do I get my site back to ONLINE mode? The administration pages won't load. Not sure it this means anything, but I hid the log-in fields from the site can I use this URL to gain acess: http://www.mysite.com/?q=user/log-in

Again, all I can get is this message: "Hawk’s Nest Publishing is currently under maintenance. We should be back shortly. Thank you for your patience."

Thanks in advance.
