Question - Is Drupal suitable for...

Hello,

After searching the drupal website, I haven't been able to find a solution for the type of website I would like. So I thought I would post here and ask if it is possible to achieve this type of functionality.

Best picks for the job

Hi all

I have been playing with Drupal for a few days now, downloading modules, installing, playing - just to see how it all works out and I must say, I love it. Yes it's got a big learning curve but I am up for that and am looking forward to tweaking code and playing with the layouts etc.

I have 6.3 on Ubuntu and it is ok, a bit slow but I could use Throttle or get a better machine than a PIII with 512Mb RAM ;)

Now I need some advice on "the best modules for the job". My scenario is that I am trying to create a small community website and I have looked through the modules available and frankly there are waaaay loads to go at and for a Drupal newbie it is a bit daunting.

So if I can lay out the basic functions of the site in terms of add on modules perhaps some of you more experienced and learned Drupal people could point a noob in the right direction?

Drupal 5.x versus 6.x

Hi everyone! I'm new here as you can tell. I read the whole getting started guide and searched the forums, but I am unable to find anything concrete that explains what the difference between 5.x and 6.x is. Also if there is an ability to upgrade to 6.x later if I choose to install 5.x first.

Can someone please let me know which is better to use?

Thank you,
Trina

I was told to use drupal for this?

Thanks for reading this. Someone told me that drupal was what I need to help me. I am making a website as a yoga resource center. I want to "somehow" put a page on it where visitors can enter their zip codes or city state, and distance / radius of search so they can find things like yoga classes near them. Is this what drupal will do? Can I do it as a novice? Thank you.

Drupal with GoogleMaps - Can it do it?

Hi

I'm looking to make a google mashup site. A site that can capture user info. Basically i want the user to be able to tag a specific spot and enter around 8-10 different pieces of info, a image or video. Then displaying all this info in a google mashup. This of cause needs to be searchable and filterable. Is something like this possible with Drupal?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated

Tom
