Before you start

Where can I get the Mac OS X specific installer? I saw it somewhere but forgot where.

I am considering creating a blog with Drupal on my student space on a university server.

The Drupal documentation says:

PHP needs the following configuration directives for drupal to work:



session.save_handler

user

In addition, we recommend the following settings:




session.cache_limiter

none

The server has PHP 4.2.2 but session.save_handler is set for "files". Am I out of luck?

Seems pretty thin from my experience thus far. Is there something I am doing wrong, or should I cross Drupal off my short list?

A couple of questions:

1. Is it possible to restrict a users rights to certain parts of the site?
For instance, if you look at this site, you might want to make a role that is only
able to create content in the Documentation part of the site, while other users might
be restricted to making objects in services only and so on. Is this possible?

Can somebody please elaborate on the minimum required PHP modules?? I tend to configure a pretty lean PHP install and would prefer not to have to use the "everything and the kitchen sink approach".

Presently I am having issues with Drupal sending email The mailserver is fine. Apache is fine. So something must be amiss in my config.

I've used XOOPS in the past, but Drupal looks like might be vialble alternative for a project I'm working on. Since I'm familiar with Xoops, I was wondering if anyone else here was and might be able to provide me with a compare/contrast of the two?
