Is Drupal a viable solution for my website? Please review What is Drupal before posting.

Which Modules Etc. Will I need

I'm trying to develop a free professional directory/referral site for a local area and I'm looking for the right modules/components/plugins, needed to create the type of services that are needed. I found a site that I believe operates on Drupal and I am requesting assistance from those of you familiar with these components to select the right ones. The site I am wanting to emulate is at

www.find-a-therapist-.info

I know that they are using the joomla forum, but the rest is not identifiable for this novice. They also have an individual webpage for each member of the directory that I want to incorporate in the site along withe ability to publish articles and each member manage their own newsletter, email list, incorporate a location map, etc.

Basically, everything that it is available at this site:

Edit your own listing. You have complete control over how your practice's information is displayed on the site.

Proximity Search. PREVIEW Patients can locate your practice by entering a ZIP code and a radius to search within. (US only in the current release)
Account History. A full log of every change and modification to your listing.
Statistics.
City Shortcuts Slider. PREVIEW Search results contain a pull-down slider panel which includes quick links to the cities which were included in the search results.
Account Management System.

But I don't have a website yet

Have set up apache php and mySql on my computer.

Have created a database

I know the username, password, database name.

Hostname? Don't know.

And the most revealing at how noob I am - It says to point my browser to the base url of my website where I will be presented with the "Database Configuration" page. WHAT???? First I have not created a website, second how would drupal know that I am pointing there and magically have this configuration page show up?

Can someone give me step by step 'dunce cap' instructions for this part of installation?

Who am I? Question about log-ins and accounts

Novice Alert!

I seem to have a log-in for Apache, PHP Admin and then Drupal. When I get to Drupal the first option seems to be to create a new account to start editing content but, aren't I already there? So is that first account the Administrator and if so, who was I before I started editing?

I would welcome any advice about how to manage those login details etc. Should I call myself "Admin" to start with? Oh, and who the heck is "Root?" I also remember accessing something using that log-in too.

See, I told you I was a Novice!

Thanks

Martin
