Advice on a Project (Product Catalogue)

Hi,

I was asked by a friend earlier in the week about doing a website. Usually, I create sites using Dreamweaver using PHP and MySQL, but the nature of her request made me consider the whole CMS option (I have never used any CMS previously - tried Joomla a couple of days ago, hated it, tried Drupal 7 after that, seems nice so far).

Essentially, the site will be a fairly basic promotional site (About Us, Contact Us, Our Services) with a catalogue of the products she sells. Initially, there will not be any eCommerce functionality but she may want to include that option later.

The basic pages were simple enough to do (although I am yet to dabble in creating custom themes - still very much in the Drupal experimental/learning phase), but I was wondering if anybody had any advice in what to explore for the Products section? Any modules available that could be set up as a catalogue and eventually implement as a shop-front that people recommend?

The product listing will be heirarchical, for example:
Clothing
-Men
--Ties
--Socks
-Women
--Scarves
--Nylons
-Children
--Leashes
--Hobbles
Decorative
-Kitchen
--Sandwich-Statues
-Bathroom..

and so forth, and she will want to be able to configure things such as if they are single items, or items per box, as well as price, order codes and other store-type things

Coolest people in Drupal?

Hi all,
What are the coolest Drupal people to follow on Twitter or other social media?

Colorbox, Insert and WYSIWYG with CKEditor modules not working on 123-reg hosted site

I have Drupal 7 sites hosted in two other places using these modules and they are working beautifully. I tried to install Drupal 7 on 123-reg and found that their automatic installer needs an enclosing folder which I don't want then that it had very long URLs including the name of the hosting package. Both of these issues have been fixed, after a number of tickets, and I see that other people have had this problem.

Now these modules just don't work at all, no matter what I try.

Any suggestions?

Is there a module that allows you to change the color of a part of an object in real time?

Hi Everyone,

I have a project in mind that requires me to change the color of a part of an object online. For example, costumized shoes design. I want to ask if there is a module that will allow me to change the color of each part of the shoes online e.g. lace is green, sole is red, shoes cover is black, etc. If there is none, can you give me tips on how to go about this.

Thanks.

Cheers,
Mike

Your favorite Drupal groups?

I've come across drupal.groups from time to time while searching this site and Google for Drupal information. So I know they exist. Admittedly, I've never gone out to look at joining any groups. I'm a member of some Drupal groups on LinkedIn, however, I was thinking about joining some of these groups as well.

With that said, what are your favorite groups you'd recommend joining?

I'm not necessarily looking for support groups but rather some active community groups. Some discussion about future Drupal, some debates/arguments going on, etc. The more the merrier.

The Internet Explorer 6 Countdown around the world

http://www.ie6countdown.com/

10 years ago a browser was born.

Its name was Internet Explorer 6. Now that we’re in 2011, in an era of modern web standards, it’s time to say goodbye.

This website is dedicated to watching Internet Explorer 6 usage drop to less than 1% worldwide, so more websites can choose to drop support for Internet Explorer 6, saving hours of work for web developers.
