Storing files on filesystem? Safe?

Is it safe to store files on the filesystem? And if, for example, I'm having several web-sites on one sourcebase. How do secure it carefully?

Examples of Access Controls and Other Settings?

I am still having trouble getting my site to work, and I thought the thing that I, and many other people need is an example site. Something that shows all the access controls, settings, etc. Is there anything like that allready?

searching on drupal.org for "node access"

I wonder, why on drupal.org when I type keyword "node access" into search box, it shows http://drupal.org/cvs-account ?

Google still doesn't list the GSitemap module!

Even though they paid for the development (via Summer of Code), and even though I wrote to them to ask them to pretty-please add it to their list, Google still doesn't list Drupal + GSitemap module on their list of CMS's that implement the sitemap API.

I wrote to them again today.... maybe they'll update their site.

Chicken or the Egg question

I think this would come down to personal preference. I would like to know what would be considered the best way of going about creating a new site, Structure first or theme first.

Is it best to setup all the modules you are going to use developing any custom modules you need and building a site with some content and all the structure using the default theme or a contributed theme before creating your own custom theme.

4.6 or 4.7 - that is the question;-)

I don't know if this is posted in the correct forum, but anyway;

In a few days I'll start developing a new project / site using Drupal.

Now that the 4.7 betas are rolling, I'm wondering:

It would make sense to work with 4.7, since it is the soon-to-be official, current major version of Drupal.

However, many modules are not yet 4.7 compatible, so:

What is needed to make a given 4.6 module work with 4.7? Is it something that I can do myself relatively easy?
