Hello
I started to evaluate drupal a little bit more than 1 week ago, after evaluating PHPFusion and Joomla. I liked Joomla a lot and would have stayed there if not Drupal seemed to be strong in these 3 points:
- SEO Friendly
- Good User Rights Management
- Cleaner Code
I am excited and impressed about Drupal.
With this post I want to write down my first impressions of Drupal, they are intended to show some points, which are probably important for people evaluating a cms and not looking only from a technical point of view (even this is important in the long run). It is not my intention to make drupal bad (drupal has convinced me), it is my intention to show that with a few changes drupal could attract much more users.
My short summary in one sentence is:
I think I will stay with drupal, because it is in the 3 points above strong (which are very important to me), makes a stable impression and has a clean interface for enhancements, but I think drupal gives away quite a few users because of some smaller but important points, mainly in usability.
Here the points:
1. My first frustration was the search function in the forum. Searching for information is one of the core things when learning and working with a cms. It is hard to understand, that a search "The directory files does not exist" returns all posts which have any of the words, for example all posts with the word "the" are listed. Luckily there is an alternative via Google (http://drupal.org/node/48913), but does everybody find it?
