This forum is for less technical discussions about the Drupal project, not for support questions.

General Direction for a project

Background:
I've been a hand coder since the internet, and have my own CSS layouts. I install and maintain Windows and UNIX web servers, and know several languages, both web and system, and maintain our commercial sites. I recently decided to investigate whether or learning a CMS could be of benefit. Others recommended I should be looking at Drupal, and I have a small project I could try it on.

My experience contacting module maintainers for paid support

I made this handy quadrant chart based on my numerous personal experiences. It is intended as humour for your enjoyment and also as lighthearted food for thought for our community. Discussion is welcome. Criticism of my quadrant chart will be glanced at. No responses are guaranteed.

Any alternative for Joomgallery in Drupal?

Hi,
Let me first phrase this out loud and clear that I am a complete newbie in Drupal or for that CMS as a whole. Only for the last month or so have I been fiddling with both Drupal & Joomla. However, one of the things that caught my eye early on was the superior authority that Drupal offers to build a data driven site with many users together with the flexibility of arranging content any way you like with the help of a number of modules starting with views.

One question keeps bothering me though; and it has to do with the visual aspect or presentation and collection of media content for and from users. I have gone through the extensions on offer in Joomla and it appears to be mindbogglingly rich. If I consider the options available for showcasing in attractive ways images in the front page of my site, it appears to me that Joomla would be my preference. Not to consider Joomgallery, which I believe to be an excellent project (also its free!) that provides almost all the functionalities of a user driven photo gallery.

I am a photography enthusiast, and if I am to build a webpage to showcase my works, at this point in time I think I would go with Joomla. But to create a site is not rich in media but in articles contributed by authenticated users Drupal would definitely rank way above. Is there any particular reason as to why is there such lack of media support?

Reasons to upgrade from D6 to D7

Is there a short summary of the differences between D6 and D7 somewhere?
Can someone offer a compelling reason to upgrade?

Thanks

Drupal and CSS3/HTML5

Hi, I just got done with a short course on CSS3 and HTML5. Some very nice things can now be done with CSS, and I'm wondering how well Drupal 7 or 8 deal with CSS3.
