MySQL Password Change Problem - won't allow typing in terminal

Following the instructions for creating a local environment, I was using the MAMP FAQ for changing the password in MySQL.

In terminal, I pasted the following:

/Applications/MAMP/Library/bin/mysqladmin -u root -p password

At the re-enter password prompt, the insertion point in Terminal was unresponsive to typing or pasting. Thinking it may have been simply a confirmation, I hit Enter, and got this response:

Margin problem in I.E and FireFox

I am working on a form and have an autocomplete input element. When I set margin-left to 100px to align the drop-down auto-complete results with the input text, it works OK in FF (2.X and 3.X) but it's off by 100px to the right in IE. Of course, it works fine in IE if I remove the margin, but then it won't properly align in FF. How can I fix it?

Thanks,

-S
