I'm currently developing an application which consists primarily of one node type with a lot of 1 to 1 related fields. Since the amount of fields may change in later release cycles, and I plan to use Views, the Field API would be my first choice. But I'm a little worried about the performance impact of 20+ fields in different tables, which are not even necessary because every field stores only one value.

Are there best practices for this problem?
Or are my worries without any reason? (<- preferred option)

We want to build a site that is similar to instructables.com. The main idea is that we will crowdsource 'writeups' of how people create certain artwork. There needs to be community elements to it, Facebook integration, badges and some more elements. If you have no idea what instructables.com is, please check it out.

People with an actual portfolio building community/social networking sites should apply. We have all design and logo templates already done, we just need someone to take that and build a kick-ass site.

is there a module where i can restrict the registration to emails ending only in .edu or any other tld of my choosing ?

I want to create a website for academics and to make sure only professors and students register i need to restrict the registration to .edu emails
I could not find anything maybe i was not looking harder. anyhow if you have some info please let me know thanks

Just like shutterstock.com with images and secure paypal integration.
