Drupal 7.0 beta 1 Released

Update: Drupal 7.0 Beta 2 is available now!

Our final Drupal 7 alpha version was released about three weeks ago. Today, we're proud to announce the first beta version of Drupal 7.x for your further testing and feedback!

The jump between alpha to beta means the following:

  • We think that we have resolved all critical data loss and security bugs in Drupal 7.
  • We think that our APIs are now frozen enough so that contributed module and theme authors can start (or pick up again) their #D7CX pledges.
  • We think that we have caught and fixed most of the problems with the upgrade path. We were able to successfully upgrade a copy of the Drupal.org database to Drupal 7.

That said, we definitely still have some bugs to shake out, and we need your help to find them! Especially new folks who haven't taken Drupal 7 for a spin yet. So please, do so, and let us know what bugs you find in the "Drupal core" issue queue (Please search incoming issues before filing).

What's new?

Tons of stuff! A revamped user interface, a new admin and default core theme, image handling in core, fields (CCK!) in core, module and theme upgrades from within the browser, an automated testing framework with over 24,000 tests, improved security and scalability, revamped database, AJAX, and file systems, jQuery 1.4, jQuery UI 1.8, RDFa, and literally gazillions of other things! Simple Questions regarding Users

Is it possible to add "properties" to a different user roles? What I'm trying to do is basically add a "credits property". For example, I would want users of a specific role to be able to purchases credits and use them towards other features on the site. Is there an easy way to go about this or am I approaching this the wrong way?

Any guidance is thoroughly appreciated.

any recommendations for paging function for D6 & D7?

It looks like I'm going to need a pager of some description to split my articles down a bit, preferable with Ajax support. I've looked at a couple of modules, but I'm not sure they are being maintained or updated for Drupal 7.

I did like the look of the 'paging' module module, but it looks like it's been in beta3 status since '09

can anyone provide any recommendations?

Using HTML home page, then Drupal website?

Hi guys

I have made a page in HTML (not Drupal) and want to use it as my homepage (much more dynamic than the template I am using for the rest of the site.
The rest of my web is Drupal, and all the links in the HTML "homepage" point to the respective sections in the Drupal site

I uploaded the HTML to my server, and it is working correctly at my "Drupalsite".com/Home.html

I have tried to set my new homepage as "Drupalsite".com/Home.html using the "Site Information" section, but when I save and go to my website it shows "This page could not be found"

Replacing main menu in theme 1 with main menu from theme 2 ?

I have Drupal 7 up and running nicely. However, I want to use the Bartik Theme as my default, but I prefer the main menu navigation from the Garland Theme.

I have no clue about theming, I'm just guessing that removing the Bartik menu and replacing it with the Garland one will involve editing a number of .css and .tpl files.

Could you point me in the direction of some documentation that may help me achieve what I want.

Simple Text color change NOT working

Ive tried just about everything, done lots of research and it seems that im doing everything right.

But my colors will NOT show up as specified, every link shows up as pink, when it should be a blue/purple color (6959CD)
