tomgeller.com: Two sites merged, redesigned, and upgraded to Drupal 7. Comments wanted!

After a much longer process than I would have liked, I've updated tomgeller.com to Drupal 7.

Along the way I merged it with my old portfolio site (gellerguides.com) and made fundamental design changes. I wrote a bit about the process on my blog, at http://tomgeller.com/upgrading-and-redesigning-tomgellercom-drupal-7 .

Drupal menu creation

Friends,
I'm new to Drupal and i'm currently creating my site.
I managed to create the Menu link with option, but not able to link it to various nodes.

The documentation available is lengthy and not able to see a screenshot.
Is there any screencast/video/images to create various Menu's and link to nodes?

Regards

Advice from experienced drupal developers/users

Hello all, I'm working on a project and I need to gain certain functionality. So I would like someone to point me to the right direction.

----------------
What I need is:
1)For each user to be able to upload his own collection of pictures with some text and other fields
2)Other users may see/browse it
3)The items of the collection need to be able to make status like : buy/sell/trade etc..
---------------
So I was thinking to do something like social network or something like that with a marketplace maybe..

Noob - What are the essential recommended modules to start with

Hi

New here. Decided to give Drupal 7 a test drive and see if I can eventually move our sites over to Drupal.

I have been doing a lot of research and many people have been pointing me in the direction of Drupal. Have also noticed that many major brands and magazines have also chosen Drupal which has increased my interest further.

I understand I have a mountain to climb in order to get to grips with the system, I have never used Drupal so I am starting from ground zero but willing to give it my time since it will benefit my business goals long term.

Website down...developer on holiday, HELP

Hi All,
I am the editor of iq4news.com, and I am in a big dilemma.

My developer is on holiday and this morning I found that my website was extra slow. It took each page about 5 mins to open, and sometimes never opened. So I contacted my hosting company, bluehost, and they told me a whole load of techy info that I did not understand, but the gist of it was that the site may have been hacked.

Here's a brief of info that I was giving but I do not understand:

- some sort of configuration number thing was changed to 666 so it was accessible to the world (database stuff that I dont get)
- database username was changed
- Said something about the database pointing to hostedresource.com and not what it should be.

We then spent the next 8 or so hours performing system restores to an earlier date (i.e. the last couple of saved back ups)

Once they did this the website went to offline/maintainance mode, and neither I nor bluehost have been able to change this.

At this point, they suggest I go to drupal forums for help because their is nothing else they can do.

Here's their message:

Overriding a contributed module

I'm looking for the proper way to hack a contributed module without making a mess.

Here is my simple change:

footermap.module

function footermap_render()
{
// I changed one line of code in this function
}

I could rename the module and never update it, but then I wouldn't get bug fixes. I can't seem to find a good article on how to do this in Drupal 7.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks!
