Drupal 6.x

Hi,
I'm the owner of the poker forum, and last time I was thinking about adding blog service to my site(now my site is only forum). I thought it's good time to start learning drupal as I heard it's quiet flexible, and I'll probably use it for some other sites which I'd like to start in near future. Anyway, have a little problems how to start such a blogging site, below is how I see it.

This is my problem:
I want my users to be able to view there account but not edit all of it.
With the profile module i have added some personal info fields that should only be visible in the view part of my account,
but not when they go to edit. These fields should only be changed by an admin.
But it is oke for a user to change there password, so i don't want to remove the edit button.

In the profile module there is no option to set a field to just diplay.

This does'nt work anymore in Drupal 6

Anyone know when the book it coming out? I know it says some time this month but I was just curious if anyone has heard any updates...

We are trying to install Drupal 6.1 on our Mac XServe. When hitting the install.php for the first time, the Step 1 page takes about 20 seconds to load. At Step 1 we get to choose the set-up we want for Drupal. When clicking the top link of the two choices the browser will hang for a while and then return the white screen of death. We are on apache 2.x and PHP5. Out php memory setting is at 32megs. So it should be enough. The apache error logs show something about includes/file.inc at line 889. So it looks like it hangs when trying to write or access some folder or file.
