I was wondering if there was anything that can be loaded while installing Drupal, things like premade pages etc so that it can be viewed all set up. Drupal does look a bit bare whaen it is first installed.
I'm trying to install Drupal on my localhost, but it doesn't work. I get until the step "Set up database" and i type my database name (drupal) with my user (leo, no password) and when i press "Save and continue" it just refreshes and doesn't go further.
Windows 7, WAMP (last version), Firefox (and tried also in IE 8).
I've tried to install modules using the functionality provided by drupal ( Modules -> Install new module, I've tried both methods )
When I do this I get a screen with
----------------------
WARNING: You are not using an encrypted connection, so your password will be sent in plain text. Learn more.
To continue, provide your server connection details
Connection method
FTP CONNECTION SETTINGS
.....
etc

What is going wrong here, is here an bug report somewhere ?
I am familiar with installing drupal on shared hosting but not on VPS. I think that the VPS does often not include cpanel so I think this means no phpmyadmin. Would I need to access the mysql database and if so how would I do this without phpmyadmin?
More generally I know there is stuff to learn about VPS tweaking and optimization but I think I can do this gradually once the site is up and running. So is there essential new stuff I need to learn before I can get it up and running?
