If I copy the "drupal" folder of an existing site, have an sql dump which has been imported into a new database of which is all set in the settings.php of the copy, should this work?
I'm just wondering if drupal *has* to be "installed" any time one wants to dupe a site somewhere else or as along as the drupal folder, the database and the settings.php files all gel, will that work?
I've tried it but don't know if the errors are related to this aspect or not so I thought I'd ask people with more experience.
I have the whole send content by e-mail functionality working using Drupal Mailhandler and Feed Importer on one server but for some reason when i replicate the functionality on my second server, upon trying to import e-mail using my designated source node, I get this error:

I have the main instance of Drupal installed with IIS7. The main site is within a few folders (I didn't setup the server, essentially was handed to me with Drupal installed).
The install is located: localhost/Drupal/DrupalTest
I tried to add a second site, found in IIS where to add the virtual directory, which I wanted as a subdomain (two.localhost/). Added it without an issue (setup the folder as /sites/two.localhost), copied files, etc.
However it's not working. I'm guessing it's due to the main install being nested.
I just found out that I could install drupal7 thourgh my package manager, meaning with apt-get install drupal7
Can anyone explain me what this actually does? and why I could prefer this option instead of just downloading the archive and putting it in an apache www folder?
I'm new to drupal. I have a dedicated VPS. I followed the given steps of drupal documentation. It is successfully installed without any issue.
It is installed in the directory /var/www/openpublish.
