Recently our team noticed fields on a certain project missing the field prefix. Being in the middle of a large site migration we immediately started to freak out a bit because none of us had ever seen anything like this before. Fields always have had the field_ prefix. That being said, on a bad commit field_ui.settings.yml turned out to be the cause but of 4 members with over 20 years collective experience never had any clue that this was not a requirement anymore, nor is it an problematic issue. I feel like https://www.drupal.org/node/2060489 should be documented more promentently as 1 there is no interface to see this change 2) if you loose it and import, you can't export the file out again to find out what you've done incorrectly.
It's not a huge deal but is there an area that we can document this more clearly as a gotcha? This really scared our team that we might have to redo large parts of our migration.
