during working on #1952394: Add configuration translation user interface module in core it turned out that we will have three different Translation UIs in Core:
- Content Translation
- String Translation
- Configuration Translation
Because of unicorns we cannot merge them completely, but we can unify them. Here a short roundup what could be done:
Accessibility
There are Accessibility tests for the Configuration Translation #2003834: Accessibility fixes, which adds hidden elements for Screenreaders and lang="" attributes to the text. We would need this also on String Translation and Content Translation.
- Add lang="" attribute to String Translation UI, #2004684: Improve Accessibility for String Translation UI
- Add Language Name to hidden Text for Screenreaders in String Translation UI, #2004684: Improve Accessibility for String Translation UI
Usability
String and Configuration Translation do have a left / right split up for source / translation, this is widely used and could also be used for Content Translation
- Left/Right (Source/Translation) Content Translation UI
Responsivness
The Left/Right Split of Configuration Translation is not built with a table and is also made responsive (see #1999156: Responsive Configuration Translation UI). The String Translation is a Table and not yet responsive
- Make String Translation UI Responsive

gábor hojtsyI don't think we should *unify* them per say, but we should make similar concepts apply with similar terminology and UI. One of the related issues is: #1899486: unify dropbutton use of translate/translations wording in links.
