I have successfully installed drupal, but i do not have access to a SMTP server. so i would like to disable the the new account email activation so that when a new user creates a(n) account the database automatically activates this account. is this possible if so then how?

you do not need access to an SMTP server. Email is sent by way of a php function.

If php is configured correctly on a sever (not localmachine) you don't need to do anything. It's already done.

if however you are on a local machine where you don't have access to a mail server, than do as the runssl states above.
