Guys, I'm looking around for a good mp3 player module I can put on my site

Something that roughly looks like this:

<< > >>
(rewind to previous song) (play) (fast forward to next song)

Note that this is not simply a player that plays one media file. It handles multiple, basically the type
of streaming mp3 player you see on some sites.

Pointing me in the direction of a good one would be appreciated! :)

Thanks,

Brandt

I haven't used the FLV Media Player module, but I can highly recommend the FLV Media Player itself. It's packed with tons of features, is easy to configure and customized--and best of all--it's free for private use.

Now this IS a video player... keep in mind - I was wanting something that would just play mp3s in the background automatically. But still I haven't downloaded the link you gave me yet and looked at it. I'll look at it a bit more and see what it can do. Perhaps it can play mp3s in the background as well?

No, it's a full media player. You can use it just for MP3s as well, just like you said you wanted.

I'm looking for a simple media player (audio, podcasts, ...) to use with a commercial Drupal site. You mentioned that this is "free for private use" -- can you explain the usage restrictions? Thanks!

According to the official website, you must buy a commercial license if:

* Your site has ads (Google AdSense, banners, etc.)
* You want to remove the attribution (the right-click link)
* You are a corporation (government & non-profit are free)
* You are a content management system

It's an AWESOME video/audio player and well worth it.

In all my other forums I just click on the mp3 or .wav and it PLAYS.

And that's all I want in the Drupal forum, no user uploads, no organizing, nothing else, just basic 20th century techology.

Is there a way to accomplish this without paying $39?

in the 21st century that would require you to find one that isn't full featured and doesn't require a license. It has nothing to do with Drupal but the writing of the players themselves.

There are players that allow you to play a single file in a single player, ie: no playlists around. GIYF in this case.

I'm sorry I'm so ignorant. What is "GIYF"?

Having admin'd many forums over the last 13 years I've never had to look for any audio player and telling me to look for one is not exactly helpful.

johnhanley’s picture

"GIYF" stands for "Google Is Your Friend".

As for free audio players (both Flash and JavaScript driven) there are many available (GIYF).

A great example is one simply known as MP3 Player. I used this for a recent project and it rocks. I love the small footprint (resource wise) and it consumes very little screen real estate. It's also a breeze to configure (especially when using the handy web-based generator tool).

I'll have to check it out.

I realized that the problem with the linked mp3s not playing was apparently my old Dell notebook, my main machine recently died. Eventually it played with Windows Media, not exactly my favorite, have to set up this computer.

MOST people should be able to play linked mp3s just by clicking on it. But it would be faster and more convenient to bypass loading whatever audio app so I'll try the player.

I believe what you're describing is downloading the file and playing it locally on a desktop audio player.

There are many reasons why this approach is not necessarily the best one. First, doing so takes them away from your website, which defeats the purpose of cultivating a loyal following. Second, listening to audio on-line is generally more convenient and faster. Third, and probably the most important reason, listening on-line allows you to protect your audio content (at least to an extent.)

That said, if all you're trying to do is provide free downloadable audio files then you don't need a player. Just attach the files to a story or page node.

I don't think I have a choice in the matter.

Every night I've been struggling with audio players. I don't read French, so the free MP 3 Player tutorial doesn't help a lot.

I tried that other commercial player, but can't get that working either.

The more I search here, the more confused I get.

Apparently I'd have to install more MODULES.

Any players that have instructions want me to copy code into the header. What header?

I'm thinking of moving the audio files to Wordpress or maybe just start a regular website.

Or, keep it simple and just attach post the URL.

You can use the Filefield and jQuery Media modules to post and playback your audio files. You can configure jQuery Media to use the free Longtail flash media player. There is a screencast that will help you get most of the way there:

There are like three or four modules that make this recipe come together, but its elegant and flexible once its installed.

Hi Brandt,

well worth having a look at the arts & music group on groups.drupal.org and this thread in particular, which lists quite a few examples of different types of music players.
