DrupalCON Europe, call for suggestions

As you might know, we try to organize at least two big Drupal events a year: one in North America and one in Europe. The latest Drupal conference took place in Vancouver and attracted more than 150 people! That is almost 6 months ago so a couple months ago we started scouting venues for this year's European Drupal conference. We are pleased to announce that this year's DrupalCON Europe which will take place in Brussels (Belgium), the second half of September (two months from now!). We'll communicate the exact dates and location as soon we have confirmation from the venue -- hopefully by the end of next week.

As it stands, we'll have several rooms with projectors so I'm thinking we should allocate one or two rooms for scheduled presentations, and use two or more rooms for self-organizing activities like bug hunts, code sprints, brainstorm sessions, meetings and ad-hoc presentations. That said, we're open for all kinds of suggestions. The purpose of this topic is to ask you some questions and to get early feedback to help us organize the schedule.

This conference is organized by the Drupal community for the Drupal community so we'd appreciate your suggestions! Here are some questions to get you started:

  1. What talks or demos would you be interested in?
  2. What do you hope to get out of DrupalCON Europe?
  3. Would you be willing to present, and if so, about what?
  4. What was your personal highlight at past Drupal conferences?

How To Export and Import Nodes

I've always wanted a way to be able to export and import nodes from drupal and edit them locally for mass-content updating. That way if I wanted to replace or insert something in each node I could do it quickly. The import-export module seemed like a way to do this, but it doesn't have 4.7 support and I wasn't able to update it's code to the new form API.

Find Files Changed by Drupal Upgrades by Version - Dynamic Implementation

My list of files upgraded by Drupal is now dynamic - I've implemented a form where you can select your Drupal version and a list is generated telling which files were changed in an upgrade from your version to the newest version (4.7.2 at time of this posting). Currently versions 4.6.5 and up are supported, as well as version 4.5.0. If the Drupal version you are upgrading from is not listed contact me and I will add it.

Users Can Post to Drupal Through MS Word

I know that "Microsoft" is an evil word in these parts, and for good reason. However, they did something right, and that is adding a blog posting mechanism to Word 2007. That means users can post blog entries (or any other type of content) straight from Word, and it actually produces clean html with none of that crazy MS code. You can read more about it here

Drupal Top Sites throttled

Due to massive spam submissions to Drupal Top Sites and traffic generated by top performers current server is not capable to handle this load. The main issue is that the other sites hosted on the same machine are in danger. So it is throttled from now and there may be some outages. Sorry for this. Realy.

But thanks to dreamhost who still tolerate such load on a shared host.
