Update: Apologies for the delay in bringing drupal.org back up. In spite of many painless conversions on scratch.drupal.org, as feared, something went terribly wrong during the update on drupal.org. It took us a few hours to work around the problems this caused with some creative coding and sneaky SQL tricks. Immediately after the site was up, it experienced about an hour of very sluggish response time. This was due to a major SQL load put on the database server during the conversion itself (a huge backlog of queries the mysqld was struggling to process), the flood of traffic from bringing the site back on-line, and some lingering PHP configuration issues that we had setup to try to debug the faulty steps of the upgrade. The good news is that the site is back now, it seems to be as responsive as ever, no actual harm was done, and the new release system is working...
This tool consists of a suite of Perl modules and a command-line tool for quick and easy creation of scaffolding code for many modules at once. Now updated to use 4.7.x hooks (just in time for 5.0 beta! :-)
VoterStory.org (http://voterstory.org) is a new Drupal site and tool to assist voters who may experience problems at the polls on November 7, 2006. Because of the dramatic increase of electronic voting machines and our longstanding concern about the integrity of the democratic process VoterStory.org created this web-based utility as a way to centralize the communication around any Election Day problems.
Specific code for including the VoterStory.org widget in your drupal-based site is included in the instructions. Data is being shared with several organizations prepared with legal responses to election issues including People for the American Way's Election Protection Project. With your help, we can make sure that every vote counts on Tuesday.
VoterStory.org was developed in partnership with Evolve Strategies as an open source distributed web site utility and module that we hope you will place on your website on Election Day. Our hope is that this distributed tool can appear across the web and country so voters who are having trouble can get help quickly and can get their story recorded.
With your participation, we believe VoterStory.org will increase our capacity to address the specific voter problems we expect will occur on Election Day by organizing the relevant stories and making sure the information is forwarded to the appropriate authorities.
