Drupalcon 2010 San Fran - how they do registration?

I was browsing by the new Drupalcon site and ran through some of the registration steps. I want to say I just think it is done very well, and would like to know more about how they set it up, what modules are being used to handle the registration / check out ?

I have some ideas, but would like to hear from those in the know, thanks.

Fully packaged Drupal distributions now deployed on drupal.org

Update: See Distribution packaging now fully supported on Drupal.org for details of new functionality.

3281d Consulting is very pleased to announce that a new era on drupal.org has begun: Drupal distributions (also known as "installation profiles") can now be automatically packaged with Drupal core and all of their required dependencies. When you download the distribution, you just unpack it into a web root directory, visit install.php, and you're done. This should vastly lower the barriers to getting a new Drupal site up and running. Please read on if you've ever considered installing a Drupal distribution or if you maintain one on drupal.org.

If you maintain an installation profile, be sure to read the How to package a profile on drupal.org handbook page before you try to use the new system.

Scheduled drupal.org downtime Tuesday 2009-12-01 2-3am UTC

On Tuesday 2009-12-01 from 2:00am until 3:00am UTC (Monday 2009-11-30 6-7pm PST), drupal.org will be down for scheduled maintenance. We'll be deploying the necessary changes to support fully packaged installation profiles, so that when you download an installation profile, you get a complete file archive with Drupal core, the profile, and all of its module and theme dependencies. Once the new packaging system is live, we'll post another announcement about how it works for both end users and installation profile maintainers.

Twitter lists to help network Drupal designers and developers

I'm building Twitter lists for Drupal designers and developers.
The idea is that by following the appropriate list - and in turn being followed - will help share knowledge, ideas and news in the Drupal community.

If you're on Twitter and want to join please follow the list you like.

Of course, we can add other lists to and open to suggestions for categories.
Thanks all.

Introducing a new Drupal development shop : Agence Inovae

Fellow drupallers, I'm really proud to introduce our new Drupal shop! Inovae (www.agenceinovae.com/en) was created a couple of weeks ago in Geneva, Switzerland and is now a three man operation formed by Alexis Dufresne aka patchak, a long time Drupal user and enthousiast, Kian Rieben an anthropological analyst of technology, and a hardcore programmer and longtime member of the community, Aron Novak!Inovae was launched and registered in Geneva, Switzerland, but we are happy to work with any client, anywhere!

Inovae is the result of more than 3 years of active Drupal development, in which period Alexis Dufresne created really strong links with the Drupal community and, amongst other great people, Aron Novak, who is now lead developer over at Inovae!

Case Study: SFPublicPress.org, A News Site for the 21st Century

How do you build a modern news Web site that gives editors the tools they needs to serve San Francisco with in-depth reporting on important local issues — all without spending millions of dollars? You use Drupal.

That’s exactly what the nonprofit news organization SF Public Press did when it built SFPublicPress.org.

Although the startup focuses on the stories that other news organizations aren’t covering, it still has to compete for the attention of today’s tech-savvy readers who have many options for receiving news.

To do that, SFPublicPress.org offers much more than news articles on the Web. Among other things, the site features:

  • audio and video to help convey what text can’t;
  • an interactive media gallery that gives readers new ways to dive into stories;
  • easily-accessible bio pages for reporters and editors so it’s clear who is behind each story;
  • RSS feeds to keep readers informed as soon as news hits the site.

With all these features and more, it’s hard to believe that building the site took fewer than 60 development hours. (It’s hard to believe even for me — and I built it!) But that’s the power of the Drupal content management system, and that’s why I recommend it as the platform for many of my clients’ sites.
