Howto: create routines???

Is there a way that I can write a script which allows me to integrate various tasks in the admin section into a routine? Often, I have to click trough the admin panel just to get the same things done ( e.g. setting up a vocabulary and a view, which I then place via line in a menu). I'd like to create a routine page where I can do all on one page... But what's the best way to get there? Any thoughts much appreciated

cheers

Anonymous cannot access content ( access deny )

Use :
- drupal 5.1
- Server PHP 5
- MySQL 5.2

Admin account have no problem to loggin, created all the website structures, added modules ( category, IMCE, TinyMCE ), added category, container, page, story etc...

Admin and all created users can access everywhere.

Allowing the rating of modules, and suggestions.

I was told this is where to make the request...so hidy ho here I am.

Well the biggest request or suggestion I would like to make is to open a general formal just for suggestions.... Maybe even take it a bit further and allow people to rate the suggestions by desirabilty.

Same with the modules, It would be so nice, and much more reassuring if Drupal.org allowed people to rate and comment on the modules usefulness, along with listing the amount of downloads so far.

New to Drupal - from Joomla: a few notes

When I was first told of cms in early 2004, was told re Drupal: but had a look at drupal, and couldn't make head nor tail of "nodes" etc, and didn't see I could readily make site as I wished: chiefly with articles with images.
I found Mambo, used this and successor Joomla.

Now having another look at Drupal - partly as I've been asked re doing site that would involve info with various categories for individual items.
A few thoughts here; ups and downs, some ideas. (and not useful to just post and tell me I'm welcome to do the coding - I'm aware of that, but dunno code I'm afraid)

Drupal has progressed, and can see that can indeed make belting sites, with images, videos, the works.
But oh dear, this main site.... (I'll post to documentation re this)

Install was easy.
Easy enough to create a basic page, choose from range of themes. And - presto! - a basic site.

But also a fair amount of hassle. Yes, a learning curve to be expected, but still not a cinch.

First, to get usability as I'd wish, need fair numbers of modules.
Some of these would seem fundamental - such as pathauto, the module for meta tags.

I installed fckeditor, had some troubles, but about ok.
But - alarming to add image with editor, and find it didn't show in pages. Had to look around to find out about Filtered HTML, and fact that (for some reason) this stripped out my images.

Need usability feedback on download access project

I am setting the blueprint for an access control module, which aim is to add access control granularity to viewing uploaded files.

In Drupal's core, the upload module sets permissions by role to : upload files and view uploaded files. It's an all-or-nothing access per role. For example, anonymous users can download all uploaded files or none of them. Not only that : if they cannot view downloaded files, they won't even know that files are attached to the node.

I am thinking of adding "levels" of download restriction on a node basis, and I would also like to make it possible for one to see the attachment table in the node when one is not allowed to download the files, and to make the later an "admin" setting to toggle on and off.

I have two usability questions. I need feedback...

  1. Is it worth it to allow the admin to create more than one level of restriction ?

Illustration : when someone creates a node with file attachments, should he be able specify a level of download restriction from a drop-down list (the administrator would create these levels) OR should be able to simply toggle a restriction box on and off ?

In the first case, on the access control page, there would be more than one permission (settable by role) :

    view {private} uploaded files

Correction to Module Category Assignment

Currently the "Akismet" spam filtering module is not listed in the category "Security" at: http://drupal.org/project/Modules/category/69

It doesn't seem like this is the right place to post this complaint -- is it?

Who is charge of assigning categories to modules?

Thanks,

Shai
