Deprecated - Performance and scalability

I've just hacked together an XCache module for D6. It requires a patch to cache.inc, however so far I'm seeing fairly decent results.

Do you know a good tutorial/book about sharding/ federation of Drupal's database?
Does Drupal support that out-of-the-box?

• How to run a single installation/website with multiple databases?. Not a master/slave setup but moving some tables (cache?..) to a different database.
• How to run drupal with multiple databases. Each database will serve 100,000 (for example) users (the database will have those users' info, nodes.... )

This maybe a silly question so i do apologise. But i just wanted to know if i disabled a few modules that is not needed on the site this time and possibly might use them at a later date.

What happens when they are disabled from the site but is still in the site's directory. Does this affect the site performance or they are left idle until enabled again?

Ive been building a site that utilizes a lot of modules and I noticed that page loading times have been getting longer. I know that if i disable some modules it will probably get faster but before I resort to that Id just like to know what it is that does slows the site down so I can attempt to optimize it a bit.

My site logo is stuck to another logo. how do i get rid of it?

Hi folks,
I just installed Drupal 6 and set the user log in block to authenticated users only. Once I logged out, I can't even see the log in block as an admin. So I can log back in as an admin?
