Drupal 4.7.x

Hi,
I'm trying to design a new drupal site. But i'm new to drupal and have some questions.

My idea is to create two level menu system.
Main menu items should be on the top (as primary links), and submenu items on the left sitebar as secondary links.
Each main menu item has its own submenu items so that pressing on the main menu item changes the submenu items on the left.

I have red that the Internalization (i18n) is getting better and better with 4.7.

But I do have some questions about it before testing it.

If some of you guys have try it, please feel free to answer my questions. Thanks.

Can i18n can do exactly like this page but for only one domain name? http://www.ndp.ca/page/2993

The website above simply have a button in the up right corner "Français" or "English", that's it.

i hope this question is not too silly:

How do i set a checkbox to default to checked based on initial value? I have some checkboxes, and what i need to do is have them appear checked if there is an inital value. Now, i could write code to do this of course.. but there are soooooo many of them ... i dont want to write a ternary or conditional statement for each one unless i have to ... is there any help available in the api?

We already have a Drupal made community that we need help rebuilding to match a new community.

First task is to move and install it on the new server and then to modify/add new/remove some of the modules we are using and changing our custom theme.

Please get back with your rating and also some example work you have done in Drupal. We would like you to be able to start right away!

I'm getting Unable to get Gallery image block when I try to add Gallary2 to my blocks. So of course I can't get to it from my mneu.

I've even tried updated using the inforamtion found here:
http://drupal.org/node/32393

I'm sure this is an easy fix and being new to Drupal, please excuse my ignorrance.
