Web site unstable -- periodically reports unable to connect with database

My drupal Web site periodically fails to connect with the database server. I don't know how often this happens, but I see it happen a couple of times a week. The site has an automatic announcement that it's not connecting. Then it comes back.

Can anyone recommend a checklist of things to investigate about this problem?

thanks

Offering Drupal Development Services

Hello.

I would just like to offer myself as being available to perform paid Drupal development work. I have extensive experience with the Drupal CMS in both commercial and personal sites.

I am extremely comfortable with the ins and outs of the Drupal codebase, and am not scared off by module coding, if that is necessary. Whatever you want to make happen with Drupal, I can do it.

In addition to Drupal services, I also offer custom applications development in PHP, Ruby on Rails, or Java as well as Search Engine Optimization and Online Reputation Management services.

Custom date format returns incorrect values using javascript popup calendar

Hi,

I'm creating a custom node module. I have included a textfield form item, Exam_Date to which is attached the javascript pop calendar (obtained using jstools module). This was done using the example provided in the readme.txt in the jscalendar folder.
I would like the input value in this field to be

26/07/2007 - 9:30pm.

My code is

Can't access any cck fields since server reboot

A client's hosting company recently rebooted the server that our client is on, and now none of the cck fields are showing up on the site.

I've logged in as admin and I still can't see any fields, it looks like they've vanished - no content types or anything, but when I go to the database all the content and relevant fields are there!

Has anyone come across this before? and a potential solution?

I've asked the hosting company to sort it out - but they haven't done anything yet and it's been 48 hours without a site.
