Converting to Drupal

Hi
i'm quite new to Drupal. my husband saw this and like the features. I have my own website now and would like to change it to Drupal. But before i do that, i have some few questions.

In my website now, i have videos posted. can i also do that with Drupal?

I downloaded Drupal last week and played around, especially uploading pictures, is there a way that I can post a certain pics in front of the page without clicking on the attachment. I tried it and it seems that every time i upload pics, it always end up as a link. saying "attachment file. jpg" or so...

I'm surprised there's not a larger audience for this topic. I have already checked out the few pages that come up regarding this topic, but I still can't get this figured out. I'm converting from Joomla, obviously, and I have no way to log in Joomla to find out what version of FB I was using [thus, why I am here].

So, I had a WordPress blog that had everything on the root domain. Stupid, I know.

Anyways, the current way it was setup with Drupal is like this:

The new way I want it is like this:

We are using uPortal to provide individualized content to our students based on login credentials. Do you know of any educational institution or other organization that has used Drupal to created a customized portal? Thanks

I am a bit confused with the whole Taxonomy/Category thing and how it relates to clean URLs.

For example, when I create a category def for my website www.abc.com and browse to it, I get www.abc.com/taxonomy/term/52 instead of www.abc.com/def
