Best practices for migrating a live site to Drupal?

Hi- I am about to start a migration to Drupal, and I was wondering if there are any best practices. In particular, I was wondering about moving from a staging/test environment to production...

I have root access to our production servers, and I was planning on just setting up an apache alias 'staging.servername.com' to the drupal directory, and then just switching the alias to 'www.servername.com' when the drupal install is ready to go live.

Another My Old Site - To Drupal

Hey everyone,

First thing is first I'm fairly new to HTML and CSS only been doing it for about a year learning about standards and CSS etc, so I know my way around but still got alot to learn - same goes for PHP.

Anyway I wanted to start to use Drupal to make content management a bit easier to update my website but also to use in much bigger tasks which I'll need in the future.

Easy to use web editor

In the near future, my company would potentially like to convert to the Drupal platform.

There is a subdomain of the site that has an online newsletter that is edited by someone who uses Dreamweaver.
She doesn't know html that well (not at all really) so I set up some templates for her so she can use Dreamweaver in Design Mode to create static webpages.

Through design mode, she can drag and place pictures around as well as use the Properties utility to change font styles, tables, etc....

Joomla SimpleBoard to Drupal What Forum do You suggest?

Hi all.

I've tried to migrate from Joomla Simple Board to Drupal core forum but it's to difficult to me.

I don't know PHP at all, and I'd basic knowledge of MySQL. I tried and I think Drupal core forum is too sophisticated to me. I want something simpler, more similar to SimleBoard. Wha can You suggest?

p.s. Sorry for my english, I'm not studying anymore.

One small step for man.............

Even though my chosen profession begins with a p, I am not a programmer and that will soon become very evident. I am in the process of learning Drupal in order to bring the following site out of the stone age: www.a4skyhawk.org The site has thousands of photos each with their own HTML page and an example of an individual HTML page can be found by clicking on either of the 2 photos at the top of the home page.

I've managed to develop a basic working knowledge of Drupal through a lot of help from this site and just successfully uploaded my local MAMP site to a live practice site in about 10 minutes. You guys made a very daunting task quite simple. Thanks!

The uploaded site (www.a4skyhawk.org/drupal/) is a very barren and basic attempt to integrate what I've learned so far, but here are my more pressing questions:

1. Is there a way to import the photos AND the associated text from the HTML files into Drupal? I've successfully used Image Import to bring any number of photos into my local MAMP site, but I was wondering whether I could eliminate the additional task of cutting and pasting the text included with each photo?

Adding information to a top of a forum page - how to

I am building a forum site. Am also very new to Drupal - this is my first site. I'm using Drupal 6.12.

At the top of a forum topic e.g. Honda Element, I want to include an image and some facts. I've used CCK to create my CarInfo content type and a bunch of related fields and successfully added and displayed the data.

I'm having trouble figuring out how I can get this data to sit at the top of my forum topics.

Do I need to hard code a forum node to pull the data in? Is this something that I can use Views for?
