Need help migrating your site to Drupal?

Drupal Development Advice Question

Hi,
I have an existing static website running off a VPS with html, JavaScript and Rebol. So the entire website is html developed.
I am considering migrating to a CMS because I percept I can benefit of an easier and more flexible web development considering that I need to involve several editors in this webpage and they could benefit of existing back-end engine that would allow them to develop without the need to type codes or scirpts.

I wish to ask the following questions with the aim not to receive references/manulas to read (examples yes) but just an honest answer becasue I am in the stage of discernmente and need few simple answers from those who are quite expert with Drupal and CMS.

1) how difficult and how much time would involve learning the basics of Drupal for setting up a website considering that there is existing web programming knowledge (not CMS knowledge)?
2) is it possible to preserve entirely the layout and structure of an existing static webpage and how hard is it? Also, does Drupal have some tools that would help creating the template/layout of the site?

Organic Group Configuration for Membership website

I am new to Drupal and Organic Groups. A few weeks ago I started working on a new Drupal 7 site for my church. We will be using CiviCRM for membership management – which integrates with Drupal and OG.

We want our new website to display content to the public. Hidden content (managed by OG) will be made available to registered members. We do not want the hidden groups to be displayed to the public. In other words, if you are not a member of the OG group, you shouldn’t see anything in that group including the group’s homepage.

I think I’ve read every article I could find on the current version of Organic Groups (7.x-1.4). I have modified my default Books, Bogs, Articles, etc., Content Types to include Group Visibility (Public or Private), Group Audience, and Roles and Permissions. The goal is to let the author choose to publish their content publicly or privately as well as choose to which groups.

I’ve pieced together the following steps for setting up groups:

To create a new group:

(1) Structure > Content Types > Add Content Type
(2) Create new group (Foo) and place radio button beside “Group Type” and “Not Group Content Type” (unless you want the Group to be able to be a sub group of another group)

Drupal newbie

Hello,
I am a drupal newbie and have emigrated from dreamweaver - so i know a bit about code etc.
I have downloaded and installed drupal and installed a new theme 'corporate clean' which is a decent start at a template to modify.

Can anyone explain tomeI edit the content that is in the theme or how I edit in general.

Thanks in advance.

ModX to Drupal

We're helping out a new client with a site that's currently on ModX and was abandoned by the original developers... We're migrating it to Drupal 7 to take advantage of Solr and a bunch of other stuff, and I'm wondering if anyone else has any direct experience with moving from ModX to Drupal?

Currently planning on using some custom CSV exports out of their MySQL db and importing them using Migrate. Anyone know of any pitfalls to watch out for? Roadblocks, etc?

Thanks much!
