I am preparing a v1.0 monthly financial model for a startup that anticipates using a utility/grid computing model and need someone with domain experience to provide Some IT consulting and research to help me build a model to estimate the recurring operating costs of a social networking type website.
My cost model will be built in Excel and driven by variables such as number of members, peak percent of simultaneous users and a profile of what those users do when they are connected (view dynamic pages, send and receive messages, upload and download images, audio and video, search, etc.).
I can build the model. What I need help with is identifying the inputs and reasonable values for them. I.e. This many simultaneous users per CPU, cost per CPU, bandwidth costs, storage costs, etc.
My model will not be a full blown “rocket-ship / IBM / Goldman Sachs” model, but will be more of a “back of the envelope” type model. I.e. I don’t want or need a ton of moving parts and/or statistical functions, but we do need to include everything and not cut corners or produce a Romper Room model.
We are not going to include any development costs, only the recurring monthly operating costs. Ideally that will include support and maintenance costs as well as all the other recurring costs you identify. Again, I am just trying to build a v1.0 financial model so I don’t need or want exhaustive research, hair splitting or nitpicking.
