Deprecated - Social software and communities

I'm trying to implement some sort of a social network where users can upload their own photo gallery. Random pictures will be shown in the front page with a possibility to comment and discuss those photos.

How do you suggest to do it?

I'm at the researching stage for building a multi-user site that will require a payment subscription service. There will probably be a standard authenticated user, and a subscribed user with a recurring payment (this will also have a free trial period).

Payment may be made through PayPal, though it would be good to do it through Google Checkout (they dont support recurring payments at their end, could this be done at the Drupal end).

I have been reading up on different content management systems that can serve as a sort of portal for social networking/community websites. I have been trying both Joomla and Drupal and have finally decided on Drupal.

Since I am new to Drupal, I dont know what modules would come in handy for the project. I do know that this will require more work than just adding and activating modules. I currently have CCK, OG, Privatemsg, and Views. Otherwise, Im at a stump at what to add. Can you offer any suggestions?

We are converting a lot of old paper-shuffling workflows into online workflows. It's introducing some interesting combinations.

Essentially, the requirements call for being able to create a document and then based upon where it goes it gets "tagged" with different people and taxonomies. We rely pretty heavily on the Case Tracker module for adding updates to nodes and to track progress, but we'd like to be able to associate users (who may or may not interact with those nodes) with nodes.

Our site was created using Drupal. We are looking to expand our offerings and create a community. We are seeking some more information on how this can be done. Are certain modules that are essential,what are the biggest concerns as we start planning.
