I have a problem with running Drupal sites using 1and1 hosting. Well actually, 1and1 has been pretty good for me for hosting 'smaller' and 'less dynamic' pages. Eeven though I upgraded to 1and1's "Premier" account last year. I am starting to have problems with their hosting for my Drupal sites as my Drupal sites start to expand and grow larger. I am posting this looking for suggestions of hosts which do not encounter any of the following problems.
Here are the problems that I currently have with 1and1:
A) Using Drupal, if I have a lot of modules installed, when I try to access Admin / Modules, I get a *500 Error: Internal Server Error*. If I have a lot of menu items, when I try to access Admin / Menu, I get a *500 Error: Internal Server Error*. If I have a lot of modules installed, when I try to access Admin / Access, I get a *500 Error: Internal Server Error*. When I try to use the Simple News module I get *500 Error: Internal Server Error*.
B) Even with my "Premier" 1and1 virtual hosting account. They only offer a total of THREE MySQL databases. Each database only has a limit of 100MBs :(.
We want to host the basic Drupal 4.6 version and some of the add on modules (http://drupal.org/project/Modules) like ecommerce and legal. Does any one know of a good, cost effective hosting company that has the expertise and is willing to install, support, mantain and upgrade this combination of basic + add on modules? Most host we talked to were willing to support only the basic moduel and were not willing to take on the responsibility for add on modules even for a small (15-20%) monthy price premium?
I'm looking for a cheap host where I can host a Drupal site. I would like to send an e-mail to the host asking if they fulfill the requirements to succesfully install Drupal with most features enabled.
I know that apart from the basic requirements, I will need:
We have been approached by an international organisation that has been porting their old web site to Drupal. Some of this has been completed, and I believe the foundations have been laid down. However their current developer is no longer able to complete the project. We are a web design and development company in Melbourne Australia, but have not worked with Drupal before. If there are some developers located in Melbourne Australia, this would be preferred.
I don't quite understand how to keep search engine robots off my drupal site while I'm constructing it. I know I have to create a robots.txt file, and I have a sample one that I got off this site, but I don't think it keeps the entire Drupal folder out of sight.
I wonder: If I password protect it, does that keep the robot off?
I'm getting tonns of this errors like below on my Drupal site. Is this a problem with the Drupal code or something else? Has anybody experienced this? I'm on Dreamhost running 4.6.2. What is causing this error? Any suggestions? [Fri Aug 5 07:03:02 2005] [error] [client xx.xxx.xx.xxx] Premature end of script headers: /dh/cgi-system/php.cgi
