Hi guys,
Just wondering if anyone knows of any decent host server load testing tools or if they are of any use.
I've spotted a few in google, like this one but, I thought I would ask on here to see if any of you guys had a rule of thumb on how to select a good Drupal friendly host.
It's fairly easy for newbies to compare their configuration (operating system, versions of php/mysql etc.) by looking at their sites, but, it's more the server load capabilities and performance that is difficult to assertain.
For example, I'm not sure whether it's better to go with the following, without jumping into expensive dedicated hosting services:
DRUPAL FILES/MODULES HOSTING (2 seperate hosts and servers)
----------------------------------------------------------------
(a) A large host, like the big guns who provide a competitive price, lot's of bandwidth etc. but, who also obviously attract and host a lot of sites.
(b) A fallback host - a medium sized hosting company who provide a basic service at a reasonable price.
DRUPAL DATABASE HOSTING (High spec. MYSQL database host)
(A) use a seperate "dedicated" mysql host to service the Drupal database .
