How to Get More PHP Memory at Dreamhost

If you are running into PHP memory limit problems at Dreamhost ( 8M by default) here's a tutorial on compiling your own PHP and getting your own php.ini. You might get memory problem when running a large number of modules or a large package like the ecommerce group.

I have tested this script several times in the last couple of days and been in contact with Dreamhost support. It does work. I am posting this because a point of frustration for many has been that they compile PHP set everything up and still get only 8M in memory.

has anyone got any recommendations for testing a host or tried splitting hosts for the files/database?

Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone knows of any decent host server load testing tools or if they are of any use.

I've spotted a few in google, like this one but, I thought I would ask on here to see if any of you guys had a rule of thumb on how to select a good Drupal friendly host.

It's fairly easy for newbies to compare their configuration (operating system, versions of php/mysql etc.) by looking at their sites, but, it's more the server load capabilities and performance that is difficult to assertain.

For example, I'm not sure whether it's better to go with the following, without jumping into expensive dedicated hosting services:

DRUPAL FILES/MODULES HOSTING (2 seperate hosts and servers)
----------------------------------------------------------------
(a) A large host, like the big guns who provide a competitive price, lot's of bandwidth etc. but, who also obviously attract and host a lot of sites.

(b) A fallback host - a medium sized hosting company who provide a basic service at a reasonable price.

DRUPAL DATABASE HOSTING (High spec. MYSQL database host)

(A) use a seperate "dedicated" mysql host to service the Drupal database .

Server requirements for a large community site

Hi,
I am building a website for a community which will have more than 2000 users online simultaneously. It will I need to know what type of server it may take. This site will have chat, forum, flash ads and streaming video.
I know it is hard to estimate the bandwidth use, but any estimation will do.

web site design

Can any body tell me that how can i make a free web site, I have read a article from a web designing site 'http://www.webdesigningcompany.net', but i am still confused. Please help me!

12th IBM article has been published: Drupal hosting (with VMWare HOWTO)

IBM has added the next installment of their fantastic series of Drupal related articles. In the newest article they discuss hosting considerations and why they decided to use virtualization technologies to help meet their specific scalability needs. Specifically they show how to set up VMWare and use it to contain the webserver and Drupal installation.

Need some recommendation

I need a hosting company which charges under 10 bucks US per month (can pay a whole year in advance).
With not much space (don't care).
With not much monthly bandwith (don't care).
But with fast page load using Drupal.

I use DreamHost now, and I have time to prepare coffee each time a new page loads - with new content. It is unbelievable. I expected to get what I was paying for, but not slowness of this magnitude.

I am in Canada.
