I run a drupal 5 site with 3000 - 5000 visits/day. This site was hosted on a reseller account, but a week ago i moved to a vps with 256MB ram. The drupal site has not a lot of modules and has aggressive cache enabled, so I thought the vps could handle it. I have no experience in managing a server, but i think the server usually behaved well, -top command result can be seen here:

CPU usage is 0% and almost no swap memory is used.
But today the page was down and resources consumption was following:
top - 23:13:40 up 14:03, 1 user, load average: 30.41, 31.61, 17.73
Tasks: 341 total, 1 running, 340 sleeping, 0 stopped, 0 zombie
Cpu(s): 0.9% us, 1.2% sy, 0.0% ni, 0.0% id, 97.9% wa, 0.0% hi, 0.0% si
Mem: 2044896k total, 2030936k used, 13960k free, 14720k buffers
Swap: 4096524k total, 2986956k used, 1109568k free, 206912k cached
I guess that cpu load is very low, but memory usage is very high. At the same time I received various mail with cpsrvd failed @ Wed Nov 7 23:46:13 2007. A restart was attempted automagically.
( i receive this emails every day)
and this ssh message:
