Im about to launch a ecommerce site and im wonder what my long term hosting costs are going to be. I know i depends on a huge number of factors but at the moment I really have no idea what to expect. Can any one share their experiences on this? Has anyone ever worked out what their cost per visitor is?
I am working on migrating my site over to a new hosted server but am having some issues. I can view my home page just fine but as soon as I try to go to a link on the site or any url I get a "does not exist" error. This even includes non clean URLs.
Background:
New web server, same hosting company. I copied all my files over, exported mysql database, imported on new server. went through and made sure I emptied the cache tables. I changed my settings.php file to have the correct new mysql data login.
I have a website using Drupal and a TNT theme. Since using this new and highly functional theme, page load times have deteriorated somewhat. Part of the problem might be the graphical "richness" of the theme, but I really doubt it's that much more heavy-weight than many other Drupal themes.
When I contacted my host provider, A2Hosting, they said that our site was running out of connections and suggested considering upgrading to a VPS or dedicated server.

I'm looking for some cues on how to calculate my needs in terms of server. I've been looking around about performance and scaling, pressflow/mercury and some study cases but it is puzzling and it seems there is no way to evaluate but just guessing. Hopefully, someone in this forum might have experience with similar config.
