Hi, i want to translate drupal into french but i dont know how to do it... can sombody help me??

i m working on translation of drupal 5.x ,now that drupal 6 is also avaible can i use my work done so far with drupal 6 or for translation of drupal 6 i hav to start it from the scrach

I made some experiments with term and i18n translations, but the results are not what i expected. As far as i understand the concept implemented, there are multiple terms representing the same logical "tag" in different languages - but this clearly breaks the "identity" idea behind a "tag". Most other concepts (for example view arguments) are dependent upon the uniqueness. What argument should be proposed and how should it be interpreted...?

Anyway - i was not able to construct a working prototype view internationalized content, internationalized terms and views on it.

Client has a site with the core modules in /modules folder, some others in /sites/all/modules/contributed and some others in /sites/all/modules/custom.

All well and good. We are now attempting to make the site multi-lingual and have managed to provide content and menus in French, German, Spanish, Dutch and Italian.

We are using the Localization module and the "manage strings" tab, but we are having a problem finding the strings in any of the modules under /sites folder.

i hav translated drupal 5.x in urdu , i hav used the translation templates and used poedit to translate it , now i hav all translated po files , but when i import them to drupal some of them are not shown in urdu and it is also shown that only 80% strings are translated. i hav chekd my po files they seem to b alrite , i hav already worked on the prural porb and now all my po files are error free , but i dnt knw then y in some places translated strings are not shown .
plz help me ... its urgent plzzzzzz help

Shouldn't be there a standard way for creating modules from scratch without ANY language (=presentation) content?

from other languages i am used to code using symbolic names that later on are translated in all target languages. In my opinion that can help make the code clearer and supports "generic" programming. For example i currently build a navigation structure with code like:
