Drupal is up and running but how do I ...?

Module to allow users to create sub-categories?

I'm working on a family site, and I'd like to give members the ability to create a new photo gallery without granting them access to the category admin screen (I highly doubt my parents would be able to handle that). I took a look through the downloads and didn't see anything obvious that would allow me to do this. Does anyone know of a module along the lines of what I've described?

Searching Drupal and non-Drupal content

In http://espiral.org we have a Drupal 4.5.0 plus other static sub-websites such as http://espiral.org/porlapaz

We would like to have a search engine able to look through all the public content in our server, being this content part of Drupal or not.

Can the search module or any contributed module do this?

If not, could you recommend a Drupal-friendly search application to install in our server?

Web and e-mail addresses are automatically converted into links. Module?

When creating a piece of content under Drupal.org the formatting guidelines show that web and email addresses are automatically converted into links. Is this a module that any drupal CMS can use? Or is this a customization that drupal.org has created for themselves?

How to show a summary of story?

I want to configure my site to have stories in a similar format to that used on slashdot and I'm can't seem to find any modules/config that make it possible.

Specifically, I want to make it such that when the user submits a story, they normally submit a short blurb which is what is shown on the front page. However some articles might be relatively long, so the remainder of the text would be read by clicking on a "read more..." link after the summary text (for example, the way they format book reviews on slashdot).

Does anyone know if I can accomplish this with Drupal?

Help - site dead after changing taxonomy/categories settings

Help - My site just went belly-up! I performed a clean install of Drupal 4.5, activated forums, image, blog, categories, taxonomy_dhtml, htmlarea, and img_assist modules. Everything worked great until I started experimenting with various permutations of taxonomy, taxonomy_dhtml and category module/category block activation. Suddenly, the Navigation block disappeared precluding me from re-settings the configuration. Also, if I try to just log onto the site with a fresh browser instance I get the following error message:
