Drupal is up and running but how do I ...?

Google friendly URLs with dreamhost

I am having a little difficulty understanding whether this is possible or not. I am using HostingRails.com shared webhosting, which I believe is based on dreamhost. I have shell access. I would like to have URLs like drupal.org/node/12, but I have drupal.org/?q=node/12
Somebody mentioned that google will not spider addresses like that, so I need to get it cleared up. I don't need you to do it for me, I just need pointing in the right direction.

thanks!

simplenews how to create a newsletter

I just installed simplenews and got it activated and access control and everything is done but I don't see any option for creating a newsletter that can be sent.

So my question is how do I create a draft of the newsletter that can be sent to the subscribers.

second question, is it possible to set it up such a way that all the links to child pages of a particular node is sent as a newsletter automaticallly?

thanks,

kashif

Extending and storing user information

I am creating a site that needs to add many extra fields to a user - bascally it will be a simple learning management system and students will have grades, classes etc. I seem to remember a module that could add custom fields to a user - i think it was called 'profile'.

Does anyone know of a module that allows you to store a lot of user information?

If not I guess it would be best to create a seperate module and then just have it link up to the user fields based on user id. Or anyone else got an idea on how to approach it?

Different menus based on entry page

I'm looking for a setup where users would have different menus presented to them based on their entry page into the site. If a user goes to mysite.com they will have the normal main menu through their experience, but if they go to mysite.com/specialgroup they will have a different main menu follow them. The only way I can think of doing it is to have each of those "specialgroups" and pages be their own site with a separate settings.php that enables or disables a menu block, but I'd like to go another route if possible.

How to export views from 4.6 to 4.7

Hello,

after upgrading to 4.7 and applying the updates to the view module, my defined views in 4.6 didn´t work anymore (don´t appear listed in site.com/views). There is one option to import a view, but in views module 4.6 there isn´t an option to export.

Anyone knows how can I get my older views to work?

Thanks in advance, Simon.

custom sub menus for each primary link

Hi,

Is there a *simple* way to enable a menu block to change its menus, dependent upon which primary link is selected?

In effect, the menu block will be a submenu of the primary link menu.

I imagine this would require enabling blocks on the fly dependent upon what node is selected. Is that possible without using a custom block? I can see a custom block that would check the primary link-loaded node and then load the appropriate submenu. But it would be nice if it were more cleanly integrated into Drupal than a hack job.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
