Upgrading from 5.1 to 6.5, having database connection problems

Hi. I'm upgrading from 5.1 to 6.5. I'm beginning the new installation after uploading the 6.5 files. I'm being asked for my database name and a database username and a password. I'm with a host server. I have my database name, but I have no idea what to use as a username or password. I access my database through a cpanel. I've tried different things, but nothing seems to work. What should I do?

Please help so stupid so simple

I just upgraded to drupal 6.5 and in order to get to my site I have to enter
http://www.pooplatter.com/drupal-6.5/
I used to not have to enter the /drupal-6.5/
I know this is amateur but what is the easiest way to fix this
I know it is how I put it on the server or at least I think.

Thanks in advance

Dumb ass

Can't install Drupal 6.5

This has been driving me nuts!!

I have copied over the drupal 6.5 core files to the server.

Run update.php

AND yet my drupal keeps telling me it is version 6.4?

What have I done so far?
- At first cron was hung so I took care of this issue
- Made sure i placed my site in maintenance mode
- Have tried to upgrade 7 times already

Can anyone please help me on this issue. It is driving me crazy!!

Unsure how to proceeed on 5.x to 6.x upgrade

I'm pretty much a Drupal novice. I installed 5.1 with Fantastico on a host server quite a while back. I've added no contributed modules, and the site works fine for me. The host server people tell me I now need to update to 6.x because the "php is hitting us hard." Fantastico has a 6.4 version on my server but when I tried to update, it essentially became a big mess. So a server technician restored my site to the old configuration and told me to update the site manually right away. I've read some of the negative comments about Fantastico, so I'm aware that many Drupal people believe I shouldn't have used it in the first place. But, well, that's in the past.

I have a huge amount of content on the site, and I don't want to lose it.

I've been reading about the upgrading process, and I have a home directory and sql database backups on my computer. I have downloaded Drupal 6.5 on my computer, and I know where the files need to go on the server. I have read about the process and watched the screen video.

Here are my questions:

Is there anything different I need to do because my 5.1 Drupal was downloaded from Fantastico?

Is it true that I need to actually delete all the old 5.1 files before I add the new files? In other words, I don't replace the files, right?

Automatic Site Update

Hi everyone

Lately I have developing quite a few sites in Drupal and I must say I love alot of things about Drupal.

But upgrading sites to newer versions is becoming a major pain in the butt. I have about 60+ websites and is spending so much time keeping all of them secure and updated that I barely touch ground or have time to develop new sites.

I have been busy writing a script in bash that automates most of the upgrading process and makes things a bit better.

How do you keep your sites updated on a regular basis?

how to update

Friends,
I am very new to drupal , i have drupal 6.2 and I see where there is a suggested update to 6.5.

I have downloaded the tar.gz - I have unzipped it...
This may seem a little silly but - how do i install it - what do i do to : Make it happen?

do i need to unzip this in a certain place ( i simply made a dir )

I have a feeling that it is way way simple ...and it is so simple that i do not understand.

Thanks!
