mysql errors when changing them after upgrade

Hi !

I upgraded drupal to 6.17 with some modules, however I meet an error when I change them in building the site section (however changing is operational) :

Won't update from 6.16 - 6.17 after upgrading.

So I made a backup of the whole file structure, database, put the site offline, turned off all the modules, and updated everything. Everything was good but when I went to update nothing was updated. I checked the status of the site on the Reports page and it still said the cms was running drupal 6.16.

I went back to my ftp downloaded some info files from the module directory and it says 6.16... Okay, so i cleared the cache on the browser and under performance for drupal. Double check to make sure all modules was unchecked, chroned the site, and reupdated. Nada, same output 6.16

Unable to turn off register_globals and mbstring.http_input in .htaccess or php.ini

register_globals and mbstring.http_input were turned off and working on a previous version of Drupal 6.x prior to trying to upgrade to Drupal 6.17. After deleting the directory files from the old install per ugrade requirement and copying the old .htaccess file back to the root folder, I have been unable to turn off these 2 settings. Phpinfo() reports both master and local values as being "ON". My current .htaccess settings are:

AddType x-mapp-php5 .php

update.php

When I go to http://example.com/update.php ....the following message was shown:

Need help upgrading Commercial site & administering multi-sites

Hi Drupal community,

I have been dabbling in Drupal for years. I had created a site for our family business at www.craneautotags.com, using Drupal 4.7.3. Until recently, this site had been an experiment to show my brother, the business owner that it could be done.

Our business, Crane Auto Tags, Inc., is a notary public that is appointed with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to conduct motor vehicle title transfers, registrations and other services.

Now that our site (and the related business) is gaining popularity and growing, I decided to revamp the site updating information and the look.

I never bothered to upgrade from 4.7.3, and I am using a MultiFlex template, which I like.

I would like to upgrade to the best, recent version of Drupal without tanking the entire site or database.

I assume that I would have to upgrade to 5.x then to 6.x, but I'm not sure. Can anyone please point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

Russ Crane, MBA
Pennsylvania

Other things I need to figure out if Drupal can do
* I'd like to make the site more interactive for members of the public who have motor vehicle titling and registration questions (i.e., FAQ section, Forum)
