Is Drupal a viable solution for my website? Please review What is Drupal before posting.

Drupal 6 or Drupal 5 Redevelopment.

This is my first post on Drupal, so apologies if I've placed this in the wrong forum. I'm normally happy to sit and read from the sidelines, however new years resolutions and all...I'm jumping in!

I've already got a drupal website in version 5, however.....now I understand Taxonomies! I'd like to redevelop my site. What would the experts recommend, a redevelopment in version 5 or just jump to 6rc2 and have the patience for CCK to be updated alongside it?

I realise that there is no wrong or right answer, just thought someone might have a view?

Drupal Phpbb Bridge?

I currently use phpbb for my forum and have been researching changing it over to a Drupal site so it would be community driven. Now that I know Drupal-bridge exists, I have a few questions.
1. Does the bridge function well when used (I use phpbb 2.0.1.8 and am willing to upgrade if nessary
2. Can you input adsense and sponsors ads easily into Drupal bridge?
3. Can you link to more than one forum using the same Drupal bridge (is it or is it not recommended?)?
4. Is this a better option than using just Drupal?

Paid group creation

Hi,

I'm trying to asses Drupal for the needs I have for the website I'm working on. My main concern is to find a module or set of modules that will allow me to put free user registration to the site and then allow users to register/create groups/teams by paying a certain one-time fee. Additionally, I would like to be able to list the users and existing groups allowing group admins to recruit members for their groups and maybe allow the users to apply for group membership and get accepted (or not) by the group admin.

From yet another newbie...

Hello:

I'm new to Drupal, PHP and MySQL. Pardon me if this question has been answered. I looked and didn't find anything, so I decided to post here.

I currently have setup a testing laptop with Apache 2.2.5 and PHP 5.2.4. This is going to act as my server for testing purposes, for a site I'm planning to develop.

DRUPAL or PLONE? A critical dilemma ... please HELP!!!

Hi everybody,

It's our first time we develop a CMS. We have been studying the different possibilities: DRUPAL, Joomla, PLONE ... We have seen that the most popular and sophisticated are PLONE and DRUPAL. From a technical point of view, my choice is more oriented to DRUPAL (PHP, PostgreSQL, Apache). All these technologies are very stable and well developed by thousands of IT technicians. Very nice sites have been developed on DRUPAL and PHP-PostgreSQL-Apache profiles are very easy to find.

On the other side, we have PLONE, very nice CMS: nice modules, nice look, ... but I had the impression, after speaking with some PLONE developers, that once you decide to develop or “touch” your own modules ... headaches start if you are not an experienced PLONE developer (those profiles are very difficult to find (ZOPE, Python, …), at least this is the case in Europe). However, I have seen and consulted several PLONE sites (CIA, EEA, …). Really impressive! I have seen that users (authorized, for sure) can very easily modify the thematic content of the pages, adding pages, files, …

So … we are just in that critical dilemma: PLONE? DRUPAL?.

OK here is the kicker

I have a Dell XPS, running Windows XP Media Center Edition.

Is it possible for me to use Drupal?

Can I load up Drupal, MySql, and PHP on my Laptop and build on it, then move it to my server?

I guess I should have asked this first.

Thanks,

Tone1
