Before you start

There are 2 different releases of Drupal Are given for installment . One is Drupal 5.6. And other is Drupal 4.7.11. Can Anyone pls Guide me which one is the best of two for a community site and whats the Difference between the two??? Please help me

I've been poring over eCommerce & Ubercart documentation & forum discussion and I'm generally blinded by wealth of details. I have a couple of specific things I would like to accomplish:

1) allow a user to purchase one of 4 roles, with the ability to 'upgrade' if desired. Additionally, the upgrade to the role would ideally occur as soon as the payment is complete.

I have been browsing through the features and modules trying to figure which ones I need. I have a general idea of which things are native features and what are in the modules but I need some guidance due to my overall structure of the organization at hand. The organizational structure is as follows

National
Region
Section
Area
Local
Small Group
Individual

I'm trying to make a install of drupal version 5.6 and I keep getting the following error message.
"
Incompatible environment
The following error must be resolved before you can continue the installation process:
register_globals is enabled. Drupal requires this configuration directive to be disabled. Your site may not be secure when register_globals is enabled. The PHP manual has instructions for how to change configuration settings. (Currently using PHP 4.4.7)"

how do I turn register_globals off?

I never had this problem with version 5.5

Hello! I'm a web designer with only a small amount of back-end knowledge. I'm good with XHTML/CSS but very rusty with PHP, JS, etc. My forte is definitely in front-end styling and design. I'm working with another web designer in-house at a visual effects school, and we're in the early stages of planning a redesign of the school's site. So, we're trying to pick a CMS.

Will Drupal democracy forum distribution work well with the CivicCRM for Drupal? We want to build a community oriented website for a NGO that we will be involved in political organizing. Do you think these combination will be an effective solution?
