How hard is something like research.yahoo.com

I'm interested in Drupal for a variety of reasons, but the thing that pulled me in was http://research.yahoo.com. I understand it's a Drupal site and it best represents the look and feel of the site I want to build. How hard would it be to do this? Is there already a theme / template that might get me started?

start with v6 or latest v5 if most modules are still on v5?

I would like your advice on which version I should use.

I need to have:
- multi-site(multiple domains)
- separate ubercart/ecommerce for each site
- separate blogs for each site
- separate forums for each site
- my own customized php pages and plugins to other applications

Advice on version 6 or version 5? Many thanks.

Will drupal be able to do all this?

Hi,

I am doing some research into CMSs to see whethere any will cater to the needs of a certain extranet project.

The potential site is to be a place where the company can provide post-training support materials for their clients.

The functionality needed will be:

Extranet administrators to be able to create website users
Extranet administrators to be able to upload various types of media files and link each media file to a user in the system.
(Ideally it would be useful to be able to create 'clients' and then have several users belonging to each 'client'.)

Users can login to the extranet and are shown only the files assigned to them.
I expect the files types to include office documents, pdfs, video and possibly audio.
Users need to be able to view the videos online (streaming) and ideally be able to download all the files too (including the video / audio)

In addition, the extranet should look different for each user (colours, logo etc.). This would have to involve each user having a unique stylesheet associated with them that is used for their session. (this unique stylesheet could sit on top of a generic one for layout etc.).

Finally some kind of logging of how many visits a user makes and how many times a file has been viewed / downloaded would be a nice to have.

CCK vs standard nodes

Hi. I'm an experienced geek but Drupal newbie.

I need to add some new content types (Item, Piece) and then extend node behavior. I've prototyped the basics in CCK, but I need to write some code. Question is, can I do this with CCK?

I can see how, if I'd created an item.module I could add all of my functionality in there via hooks. I don't see how to do that with CCK-created nodes however. But it seems that other advanced modules (Panels, Views, etc) were designed to filter content via CCK fields.

Should I just abandon CCK?

Date handling

Hi folks,

Does Drupal 6 overcome the 1970-2038 date limitation? I want to be able to adjust the dates for many nodes to reflect pre-1970 dates. This is because some of my content includes historical family documents.

Thanks in advance.

i18n - English and Arabic - ie L to R and R to L on the same page

Learning Arabic and suffering from a lack of a useful system to store learnt info and also a lack of good resources on the web I am considering setting up a learning resource - dictionary, grammar guides etc - This would need to be able to help people going from say, English to Arabic and vice versa. In theory I could set it up so that French speakers learning Arabic could set up French-Arabic pages.Am I going to run into any specific problems with having blocks on the page some of which are English left to right and others are Arabic right to left?
